Do you ever have a dream about someone, and then you sort of think of that person differently the next day? I.e. sometimes I've had a dream about a boss where he's been really mean to me, and the next day I'm sort of more wary around him.

Yes, I dreamed about someone once, that he was mean to me, and when I saw him in real life I didn't want to talk to him.

I do that sometimes too, especially if I'm stressed. And then I wake up in a bad mood and have a hard time shaking it off.

Isn't that so strange, that something that is completely not real can have such an impact on your real life? You can dream about something awful, which is just in your imagination, but then it can impact how you deal with a real live person that knows nothing about this imagined situation ...

I guess it just goes to show you how powerful your mind is, and how much your perceptions can affect your reality ...

I am retired with lots of time to play computer games, which I do too much, sometimes. They effect my dreams. I play stategy games and my dreams seem patterned unless I stop for awhile. Card games don't do that.

I remember my first job when I was seventeen. I was a PBX operator on a very busy board in a hospital. That was back when boards had all the flashing lights and cords tangled all over it.

At the end of my first day, I knew I'd never learn it. That night, I dreamt I was working that board what seemed like all night. The next morning, I went to work and knew how to do it. What a terrific but exhausting way to learn! I told my supervisor she owed me overtime pay.

I guess my point is that our brains react to patterning in a way I never anticipated.

Wow, that's amazing, so the dream really helped you! I definitely know that research shows that thinking about doing something - say thinking about the way a given song is played on a piano - help you actually play it. So if you spent all week imagining how the finger movements went, then when the time came to play the song you'd be better at it than if you didn't practice in your mind.

So dreams can be really valuable if you are able to do that!

This may sound crazy, but I use this technique for figuring out new knitting stitches. I can read about them, watch videos, or others doing them, but until I work it out in my head, my fingers don't get it.

As I'm falling asleep, I concentrate on how the stitch is described, and within a day or two it "clicks" in my head.

I've used this for other projects as well, and was quite surprised with the obstacles, and problems I was able to overcome before getting started.
