I first connected with the blog of Rabbi Phyllis Sommer because she wrote about her four children (and I have four children).

I soon discovered her blog, "Superman Sam" where she wrote about her son's battle with leukemia. Their beloved Sam was laid to rest on December 16th, 2013 - a year after my grandmother died and the birth date of a dear friend of mine who passed away way too soon.

Today (April 1, 2014), Rabbi Phyllis Sommer and her husband, Rabbi Michael Sommer are part of 36 Rabbis Shave for the Brave - a St. Baldrick's Event to raise money for childhood cancer.
