“The Universe comes to London,” read the banner on the courtyard wall of the Kensington Conference and Events Centre. Images of the Universe, people who study it, ideas about how it works, and equipment for seeing it occupied the center for the two days of European Astrofest 2014.

At Astrofest I had the pleasure of meeting Rob McNaught. He was the discoverer of the Great Comet of 2007 (mainly visible in the southern hemisphere). He's also discovered some seventy other comets and numerous asteroids and supernovae. Here is a spectacular picture that includes Comet McNaught.

OMGosh, Mona - fantastic article ! I would love to have been at the Astrofest.

I remember my brother and I tried to explain to our Mother, long ago, that when we look at stars we are looking in the past.

I really enjoyed reading your article. You have some great information included.

Hope all is well with you.

PS: Your photo of Comet McNaught and all the others on Pinterest are stunning.

Thank you, Phyllis. I'm glad you liked the article. Yes, it was quite an exciting two days. There were a number other good talks which I didn't have space to include in my article. A quite entertaining one was Bill Gutsch's presentation about the special effects in science fiction films, "Astronomy Goes to Hollywood".
