Happy happy! Today's cleaning project got the desk out of the music room and into Bob's office, so I can practice Bach Prelude in C Major again! My keyboard had been blocked by the mess. I find that song so soothing smile

Bach Prelude in C Major

I play it slower than this though, more relaxing.

Hi Lisa and all,

This is one of the pieces of music I play to my plants at the end of a hot day when I feel a tad ragged. Of course I think that they may feel so too (what with all that growing and all), and at times, with a chilled white in hand, we contemplate tomorrow to Bach.

Cheers

Beautifully said! It's a true gem. Beautiful music, Ave Maria is beautiful on it, and you can learn a lot by playing it - it's in C major!

I did a midi long ago:
Midi file of Bach's prelude #1 in C major

Hello Teo and all

That was beautiful to listen to, thank you.

On a personal note, we all grieve in different ways I know, and when my Mom died I was distraught to say the least. It took me around 4 years, every night, falling asleep with my grief and hot tears to Schubert's Ave Maria. If I did not play it to calm my spirit, I just could not sleep or settle down.

That time has passed now and while I still miss her so, as we all do our loved ones, I hear this piece of music, however sung or played, with fondness and real enjoyment.

Teach me something please ... what is a midi in terms of music?

Thanks and cheers

Hi again and let me tell you, COMPLIMENTS WILL GET YOU EVERYWHERE! Now here is something that will be fun..

Above is Bach's Prelude that Charles Gounod put the Ave Maria words on, and they stuck, so that's 1. Here is Schubert's song.. Ellens Gesang is what Franz Schubert called it, later "Hail Mary" was sang on it, stuck, and Pavarotti's version is sort of the standard. Here it is, as a MIDI file:

Midi of Schubert's Ave Maria (Ellen's Gesang)

Here is another version, see, Franz Liszt redid Schubert's song and added wild virtuoso passages (which sadly I am trying to play here). I rearranged Schubert's version for a trio and brought Liszt's parts in as well confused. This is an MP3 file (actual audio).
Ave Maria with Liszt's virtuoso piano back on it - a Trio Score version

But to really get deeply into this, Caccini wrote an Ave Maria as well!

Ave Maria by Giulio Caccini - a MIDI file

That is just the midi, the sequence from the score which is:
Caccini's Ave Maria as a PDF file

If you play music you can see it is a nice sequence, simple but strong! He was from the Ferenze Camarata - a group from Venice called the Camerata. Galaleo's dad was in it too! I have it from a good source that he didn't compose it fully, another fellow, I'm glad you reminded me, I want to check that before I include it in my World Music Class workbook. Anyone here know if Caccini did or didn't compose it? Various radio stations have said Caccini wrote it.

I hope it's OK sharing all this music and blab - I mean serious discussion! laugh

Love and light being,
Teo
