I agree with you Tom. If I am going to vote for a Republican, then I want to vote for someone who stands for the same ideals as I do. Like you said - otherwise I'd be voting Democrat.
I've honestly been leaning more towards the independent parties these past couple of elections, because I haven't felt a strong presence in the Republican party.
If a candidate is going to align themselves with one party or another, then they need to have the majority of the same principles as the party platform.
