Ilyssa,
You make a good point. Many families fail to discuss money management. I was fortunate that my parents guided me. In fact, my mom suggested I take a course in high school on basic money skills. This would have been things like balancing a checkbook, etc. Well, the course was only taught the second half of the school year so I took a course on craft making the first half. This was the only course to fit my schedule and still take the money skills class. And I did truly enjoy the craft class. However, when the second half of the year arrived, guess what? The school cancelled the money skills class and instead offered a second craft class.
I never got a chance to take the money skills class. I loved the craft classes, but I think the school missed an excellent opportunity to enrich its students with money management skills. The emphasis seemed to be on making more money, but not what to do with it once you earned that money.
