As for my experience, there was a time or two years ago when I knew I was dreaming, and I chose to keep the dream going. I had control of it to a degree, which was neat.
I also have had more than one deceased loved one visit me in my dreams. I know the dreams are real visitations because they have a different "feel" to me, more real, and they make more sense than the often disjointed and strange dreams I can sometimes have. One loved one in particular would come to me the very next day if I asked him to, and he would do exactly what I asked of him. I don't have that kind of dream control, so I know it was really him.
