I'm spending the day listing on eBay. I'm looking round my house and listing anything I think has a good chance of selling.
What are your favorite methods of getting rid of stuff you no longer want?

I usually put things up on Craigslist if they are fairly large - like furniture.

We rented a dumpster and put it in there. There was a sign saying that people could take what they wanted out of it. On the last day, we took the sign off, discarded all glass items and sent it off.
We should have gotten the larger size of dumpster.

Wow Connie! that sounds drastic. For larger items I often put them outside my house with a free sign, and they usually go.

We wanted to get rid of a lot of stuff quickly. We do the curbside thing, too. We also take books and media to Half Price Books and sell them back. We make regular runs to our town's recycling station, especially for electronics.
Since we run about a 70-90 hour workweek during the school year, we just don't have a lot of time to sell things. In the summer, we have other things that we need to do to get ready for the next school year. Oh, the life of a teacher! Public perception-8-3 five days a week and 3 months off in the summer. NOT!

I've done the ebay thing for a few items, but they take 10% of what you sell for, not to mention the paypal fees. I only sell there when I am trying to appeal to a certain market because I lose out big time on ebay.
I have done the free thing at the curb, advertised on the freecycle yahoo group, and I have also given items away to Savers and Goodwill. Most times the money I would otherwise make on trying to sell is not worth the time and effort. Giving makes me feel a little better about it too bacause a lot of people are in need these days.

Call the local goodwill-type shop for a pickup. Debbie, I like giving away, too.
