Hello fellow dog lovers!

I have a 3 year old terrier/poodle cross called Georgie. She's had tummy problems for the whole 2 years we've had her. She's a rescue, from the SPCA.

I've taken her to the vet three times; we think she has irritable bowel syndrome. It flares about once a week, and the medication seems to keep the flares down. With meds, she'd be sick more often. When it flares, she won't eat and only wants to eat grass. Her tummy makes really loud gurgly sounds.

Do you know of anything to calm her tummy? I was told charcoal would help. Do you know anything about this?

Hello Laurie,

I would do one of two things....go to another vet, get a second opinion. Or, which is what we did with one of our doxies, and that was switch to a food that had just the basics.

We have always fed our babies really good food, but one always had tummy troubles. By eliminating "stuff" from the food, we narrowed it down to that he was allergic to grain and couldn't tolerate beef.

It is worth a try. Oh, one thing we did do and that was to put him on a diet of cooked hamburger and rice for a week. That gets rid of a lot of stomach upset and lets you introduce foods back into their system.
