So I have been thinking of Page of Swords as having alot of meanings like discretion, vigilance, keeping secrets, waiting for the right moment to take action, finding out "classified" information, etc. Kind of like a 007 character. But on another board I saw much talk about it signifying a person who can't keep a secret, a source of gossip, maybe a person who is too immature to keep secrets, etc. I am puzzled by this as I thought it would seem more likely to have those meanings if it were reversed instead of upright, but I would very much like to hear other perspectives on this one. Am I way off track?

It's always important to consider all the surrounding cards as well. People sometimes struggle reading Tarot when they look for a "set definition". Reading the interpretations of others before connecting fully with one's own interpretations can cause confusion and second-guessing.

Tarot is a very subjective art - there are no absolutes and what means one thing to you, may symbolize something rather different to someone else. Context, spread used, surrounding cards etc. are all important considerations and can easily change a cards interpretation.

A Page of Swords upright all by itself and properly balanced, to me, would represent someone open-minded, but cautious. Someone who can see clearly and is confident what actions to take. This would be someone who is driven and motivated. Reversed or out of balance a Page of Swords can sometimes indicate someone "reacting" rather than carefully considering his/her deeds. Perhaps a need to be more open-minded and cautious, a temper tantrum of sorts or impatience that leads to mistakes being made or having to fix or correct something. Immaturity. Those are my feelings/intuitions around this card - yours may differ and that's fine smile

Have you done a Tarot journal? If not, I would highly recommend it. It will help you truly connect very deeply with your cards and also build your confidence in your own interpretations.

Very interesting, thank you. I have not done a Tarot journal, what is that? When you record each reading you do and your thoughts on it? My first interpretation of that page was closer to what you described, and it seemed to make much sense in the context of the reading, while the interpretation of it being a gossipy type of person did not fit in at all, so I really didn't know what to make of it. It was that 3 card spread I mentioned in another thread and this card was the "present", Empress was future, and Page of Cups was "past".

But I also read that beyond those definitions he can be also sort of manipulative person that creates intrigues and also is someone you need to be careful around. But that is determined and a labor person. Also is a person with a strong temperament. Well it is young and so sharp as steel.

All of these meanings depend on the cards around them and the context of the spread as well. This is why it's important to learn to connect with and establish one's own "Tarot Language" and not depend on the definitions set by others. When we do this - and all beginners do it I did too over 20 years ago ;), it becomes easy to question our judgment and to take the definitions of others as more valid or important than our own instincts/intuition. Tarot is a tool to tap your intuition - not to give you answers out of a book smile Learn to develop intuitive reading skills and you'll find you become an excellent Tarot reader for both self and others.
