Perhaps it is because that is when a train actually began stopping there Mona, so life as such could really begin.

Up until then it had been mainly a mining town which had gone bust I think. The first train stopped in 1870 and by the mid 70's it had become a really active and exciting place to be.

Ages ago German TV repeated an old TV mini-series called "Centennial" with David Janssen, and that at least is how the Colorado from the time was portrayed..............but there is no doubt that Beetle will know the actual reason. cool

Being a 'Mile High' Native, Francine you nailed it.

Gold prospecting & mining did take a turn about the time the train spur out of Cheyenne arrived. It would be a few more years before silver became the next attempt at fortune.

This was not enough to prevent Colorado from becoming the 38th state of the Union in 1876. Thus, the 'Centennial State' and the attempts to host the 1976 Olympics in celebration of 100 years of statehood (those went to Innsbruck due to Colorado residents voting to withdraw fearing the high expenses & environmental impact).

Greece - around 700 BC (maybe 650 BC - something like that), when the prosperity of the city-states led to the advances in science, mathematics, architecture, drama, and philosophy.

Holland - during the Tulip Festival

(Did you know that Holland orders their tulip bulbs from Skagit County, Washington? My sister-in-law had some friends who lived up there by us when I lived in Skagit County. The friends took a special holiday to Holland during the tulip festival over there. They were looking for some special bulbs and were told the shipment from Skagit County had not yet arrived. hahahaha true story!)
