I'm finally feeling better so I weighed myself to see if there were any major changes from my last weigh in of 117 lb. My weight is back to 118 lb; big surprise, it's been that way forever now and even when I see increases or drops due to illness, injuries, dietary meltdowns, booze intake changes, etc. it always seem to cycle back to that.
So it got me thinking about how often a person should weigh and here's my advice based on years of experience helping clients lose weight.
If you're just getting started weight every 10 days or twice a month. No more than this or you'll drive yourself insane. Focus on weight loss actions vs. weight loss outcomes and you'll lose steadily without added stress or weigh-in drama.
If you're close to your goal weight and struggling to lose the last few pounds weigh daily and keep a journal of workout and diet to see patterns that can help you get off that plateau.
If you've been at your goal weight for a few months only weigh once a month.
If you've been at your goal weight for ages like me don't weigh yourself anymore unless you think something is off. Your tightest clothes are a better measure of what is going on than the scale once you are at your goal weight/bodyfat/size.
The scale is only a small measure of success. Here's 10 milestones that matter more:
