Using Multimedia in Online Courses

Do your instructors use pictures, videos, podcasts etc. in your online courses? Do you enjoy those additions to the course? Do you feel they help you learn the content better?

Good article! I like multimedia for demonstration purposes. For example, I have taken some online education courses. It's easier for me to understand a teaching method when I can actually see an adult working with a student in action. Reading about it isn't as effective. I go to You Tube now on a regular basis to watch people demonstrate things I want to learn how to do. I can stop and pause as I try things.

I still like written lists of step-by-step directions. I often watch a video, then use the written list as a visual reminder later.

Great points Heidi. I think sometimes demonstrating how to do something is easier for the person trying to teach something as well as easier for the learner to understand. I also often go to You Tube to watch demonstrations of how to do whatever it is I am trying to learn. In fact I often pick up tips on how to do things an easier or better way even if I have been doing it my way for years.

The written list is a really good idea for helping to remember those tips and steps later when you haven't done it for a while especially.
