I think if one gets in the habit of saving - saving any amount - then that's the big battle. Just promising yourself you will save something each month. If you are totally broke, save a dollar.
When you have more, save more. Just save something!
Many of the authors whose books I've read on self development and building assets call it paying yourself first. I wholeheartedly agree with this concept. As Tony Robbins once said on one of his tapes, "If you can't save a dollar out of every ten dollars, you won't be able to save $100,000 out of a million".
Saving is so important especially through maximizing your 401k or IRA etc. So many people don't put enough money into their retirement accounts and end up treading water well into their sixties. If anyone on here is into investing I just read a great book called "The Power Curve" by scott kyle. It shows you how to invest your money wisely given different time horizons.
