Twitter and Your Job Search

Have you effectively used a social networking site in your job search?

I just linked to that article in one of my Facebook articles.

Facebook does offer a lot of security in the ways of lists to help users post information to just the groups of people you want.

I'm not a fan of employers asking for passwords though. That is just wrong. Would you let them come to your house and look through your medicine cabinet or the files on your computer?

LOL...great analogy Vi! Love it! I think employers have gone overboard in checking the personal sites. Personally, I'm concerned about the work you do from 8-5, at the end of the day, I go home too!

I guess there are some jobs that would require this 24 monitoring of how we live our lives - like public safety, public officials...can anyone think of any other jobs where it's important for an employer to know what you engage in 24/7?

It can, if used "correctly". One of the sample questions we started using for reference librarians is in regards to social media. There just isn't anyway around it in today's job market.

(NO we don't check their FB, twitter or LinkedIn pages...LOL...)
