I recently attended the 'celebration of life' of an elderly family friend. Family and friends gathered at the local hall, reminiscing about his life, some folks telling stories that had the crowd laughing, and some brought tears. A relative played a cpl wonderful tunes on her violin, and a soloist sang a beautiful song fitting the occasion. The eulogy was true to form, discribing the colorful and fun loving person that he was.
This was the most respectful way to bring closure to anyone that I have ever seen. It was very well organized, followed by lunch and socializing.
My point is ~ there was no minister, and not one word of religion. Like I said, it was the best "closure" I have ever attended. Finally, yes finally, non-believers are starting to realize they don't need to have an expensive funeral and religion when the end of life occurs.
So, hopefully this is the way of the future.
