The mongoose can make a loveable pet if socialized from a kit. It is possible to find mongooses for sale and mongoose breeders. Many countries do not allow them as pets. Start by learning if they are legal in your country and then check local government laws. Learn about diet and vaccinations.

Mongoose - Mongoose as a Pet

Do you know anyone that has a mongoose as a pet? What is your opinion?

I never realized they made good pets. I don't think it would be the pet for me. It is interesting to learn about different exotic pets like the mongoose. The sloth was something I had ever thought about as a pet before reading your article. You asked for suggestions how about the honey badger? I see your point about other animals in the household along with the mongoose. I'd hate for my babies to become snacks.

The honey badger is on the honey do list, it is in the works. Not everything makes a good pet for every person. That is part of the excitement of exotic pets. There is such a huge diversity of choices. There is always a fit between animals and people because we were always meant to be together, to live on this earth in harmony. I am afraid a mongoose would find my pets a tasty treat.

Mongooses are just plain cute. I understand that they could have an immense effect on the environment. People don't think to far ahead when introducing new things that don't belong. Plants, fish, there has been some environmental disasters. Most animals could be controlled by spay and neutering for the pet market.

They do make good pets. The trouble is, that isn't the only question one asks themselves when they are deciding on an exotic pet. Are their personalities what I expect them to be. Maybe some time spent with an animal before the animal is purchased is a good idea. Are they legal? Just because you can buy one doesn't make them legal. Do you pour a bowl of dog or cat food and consider them fed?

What is your criteria for picking out an exotic pet? How would you decide?
