Monica, thanks for the link to the article. I read it and am even more doubtful about Pinterest. I will have to read the terms of service for a better understanding. According to this article you link to, Cold Brew Labs can sell our images. Is that correct -- and who/what is Cold Brew Labs?

The article Monica posted is very important. As bloggers we use images that may be royalty free for our use, but we don't necessarily have the right to sign them away to another party like Pinterest.

If you use Pinterest it is best to use only your own images.

What I don't get, is that "Pinterest allows you to organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web." This infers that you don't necessarily own the works you share.

Can they explain how you can share the works of others if you don't own it and how Pinterest can then claim rights?

What am I missing? As far as I can tell, this is a copyright nightmare.

Phyllis, people can click through to your website from pinterest. I've had 169 views through pinterest in a couple months.

When Google pays so much attention to back links to get traffic and page ranking, I think the incoming links from a popular, highly ranked site might be worth something as far as marketing your site.

Hi all, I've been playing with Pinterest too, I'm at:

Pinterest.com/MommyMystic

I've made boards on the Sacred Feminine, Buddhist Art, the Chakras, and Sacred Places - my idea of fun.

I know there is a lot of debate circling about Pinterest right now, hence the articles Monica posted, but used properly it is meant to link through to images, i.e. drive traffic to the source sites, and not make the images available to anyone else directly from Pinterest. And there is a way to make your images unpinnable if you like. Really it is no different than a list of links, except that it is images that link back to their source sites...

Right, I agree with Lisa on this one. I think it's safe enough to use for now. In terms of long term survivability, I think enough websites have come and gone that we have a sense that no website is eternal (well except ours of course smile smile :)). So sure just like MySpace and others, it may get replaced over time by something else. It's still useful to use now!

I am a member of a Facebook group for pinterest chat and I take part in the Friday night twitter chats for #pinchat. Last nite was on awareness and the gal has loads of boards on lung cancer and it gave me great ideas for autism awareness. She has three separate accounts so I plan to do one solely for autism at some point.

I know a photographer that links to his flickr acct and also he sells his work on red bubble and links there for those pictures. Many do this with ebooks and link to their blog or website.

Dear Bonnie -

That is an *awesome* encouraging idea. It is a perfect way to spread awareness of how we can help others. I am definitely going to do that! Thank you!
