I know I'm chiming in too late for this year's Valentine holiday, but I wanted to say that if you don't have a significant lover to celebrate the holiday, why not do as you did when you were in elementary school?
You know how you brought valentines for every kid in the classroom? You can make your own or buy those inexpensive kiddie kind to hand out to everyone you meet that day. Or bake heart-shaped cookies for the office.
I've found that there always will be someone who feels lonely, just like Charlie Brown, and who never got or gets a valentine. You can make his or her day with just one of those kiddie valentines. It will bring a smile to many faces as they recall their childhoods. And who doesn't like a heart-shaped cookie?
You can get your child to draw a few homemade valentines to hand out to the homeless or distant family member. My elderly aunt lives in an assisted living facility and a nearby church group brings the residents valentines handmade by little kids. She never had a child herself, and she just loved her valentine made by a thoughtful child.
Choose someone to be your valentine. It does not have to be a romantic thing. A child works great. An older family member. A friend, co-worker.
Valentine's Day is about love. And there are all types of loving relationships to celebrate on this day.
