Is there a trail or way to hike the entire hadrian's wall? Or are there roads to access this area so you can travel along the wall from town to town? Do people backpack this, or stay in inns? or is this just a fantasy idea i am having?

Jilly hiking Hadrian's Wall is realistic. Try this link - Hadrian's Wall Path as a starter Get back to me if you want more info. What I would say is that Hadrian's Wall is actually England rather than Scotland (although in Roman times boundaries between countries were not clear). The Antonine Wall, a World Heritage site and another Roman constructiion, runs through southern Scotland.

Jilly keep in touch and let me know where you are at with this. Both Hadrian's Wall (English Culture) and the Antonine Wall (Scottish Culture) are on my "to come" article lists.

I have been fantasizing about doing such hikes for years. I don't know when I will be able to afford to go overseas, but it's on my must do list.
What are the best times to travel in Scotland if I don't love the rain and cold?

My favorite time is September. Still a little cool, but the rains don't usually crash in until mid-October. The "height" of summer often brings very foggy weather, even if it is warmer. With the Euro in some distress this may well turn out to be a bargain year for travel.

The summer is a long way ahead and who knows what the world economy will be doing then but of course the state of the Euro won't affect the UK, and a hike along Hadrian's Wall or a visit to Scotland, as Britain uses the pound sterling as currency which continues to be quite strong against the dollar.......... not good for Beetle's Olympics but again who knows what the summer brings.
The dollar's current comparative strength against the Euro, with a possibility it might go higher, will make Europe that much more attractive to tourists from outside the Eurozone, but still it pays to be careful and plan well. Many tourist destinations are simply intending to increase their rates, which negates any gains.
Asha will know more than me but whenever I have visited Scotland the best times have been from spring to September, with June probably the best month of all. Am lucky have never ever seen any fog but during the autumn and and winter there is usually a morning mist, which combined with the scenery is both haunting and beautiful.

Francine thanks for the post re. currency. As you say as the UK doesn't use the Euro there is likely to be less fluctuation in prices. In fact this year, with the Olympics, it may be that UK holidays are more expensive as flights and accommodation are likely to be booked more in advance. I would imagine that at least some people from overseas visiting London for the Olympics (particularly people from far away) will also use the time for wider UK tours, including Scotland.
To return to the weather I think you are spot on about the tourist season Francine. General rule is May to September. If you are visiting the Scottish Highlands June and July can be great for really long days and endlessly light evenings.
Eurogirl you mentioned fog. I can't say I have found it a big issue in the summer in Scotland (certainly not compared to the fogs I have seen in autumn and winter). Fog is often commmon by the sea - you may have heard of the term "haar" which is used in Scotland to refer to fog in coastal areas.
Jilly Scotland's weather is unpredictable - always worth packing clothing you can layer and a windproof/waterproof coat even for a summer trip.

June and July sound wonderful to me. I'd love to experience the long days.
Are there any hot springs in Scotland?
