Ok....is it just me, or are Christmas cards made up of a photo or several photos of someone's kids a bit annoying? A lot of the time it is just a sheet that you can't stand up on a shelf or fireplace mantel. My boyfriend has a young daughter so he likes these types of cards from his friends, but I really don't like them at all.

I love Christmas cards.....the scenes, the colors, the sparkle of some of them......but when I look at the array of them in our livingroom I don't care to see a bunch of kids staring back at me. And believe me, there are several cards that are just photos of someone's kids. It just seems weird to me that parents think everybody cares how much these kids have grown in a year. More to what we have all said about parents pretty much having no other life but their kids.

Maybe I am just a scrooge.

haha. My husband and I were just complaining about this very thing. We get cards from old coworkers and are like, we have never even met your kids! why do you want to give us their picture? I dont want pictures of kids smiling awkwardly in my formal room.

seriously, I don't send out pictures my animals on the cards, please dont send me pictures of your kids. I think it is kind of egotistical and yet another example of child-worship. I think a family pic is okay, but there is no reason to send me 6 pics of your kids on a xmas card.

Exactly! I told my boyfriend that my dogs and my horses are family to me, but I am not making up Christmas cards with their photos every year to send to everyone. Maybe family members enjoy this sort of thing, but when these photo cards are from friends and acquaintences, I don't think so.

I am so glad I am not the only one that feels this way.

My family never sends those types of cards except for my cousin who in the last few years have either sent a card made of a picture of her family or she will send a card and include a picture in it. I don't mind the picture cards at all because they are my family. She's one of my favorite cousins and I love her kids as well so I like to have pictures of them. I guess I don't get annoyed because no one else does it. The only other cards we get are just the typical boxed cards.

I don't particularly mind getting pictures from close relatives of their kids. I do think it's a bit egotistical for people you don't know that well to send you pictures of their kids as a card. But I'll do you one better. My older half-sister has two young children. I love my nieces very much and I realize how this may sound, but I have to say it. My older sister isn't one of the people who sends a picture of her kids as the card, but rather sends out a picture of her kids as the present. While I love getting pictures of my nieces, it would be nice if a little more thought would be put into her gift-giving, as apposed to just giving a picture of the kids and calling it quits for the year.

Ha ha, mrs humbug ! although I do agree, and am lucky no friends have sent such cards.
I think it comes down to the 'thought' - especially at christmas.
The whole point surely, is to send warm wishes from one friend to another, so a picture of a child you don't know just says ' this is me and mine' and not celebrating the season, or the friendship.

What really gets me are the cards that are not much bigger than a postage stamp, or the ones that have no name inside, just something like ' best wishes from...'

what's the point ? I always put a few lines in my cards, as the whole point is to make a friend feel appreciated, and loved at christmas time .
And as it's christmas eve, I wish all you wonderful people, wherever you are in the world, a happy christmas, and a 2012 filled with peace and love.

I tend to agree with the comments here about Christmas card photos. One exception though, if there is a family photo, where I can see the entire family, I think that is nice. In many cases, I get cards with people's children, and I honestly don't know these kids. I wonder what kind of comments I would receive if my spouse and I decided to put together our own "photo card" and send it out. Just photos of the two of us.

I did this for my dad a year before he passed:
