My birthday and my husband's birthday - as well as several other family members - are also around this time of year. I used to get so frustrated when people assumed I was holiday shopping.

This year, it seems there are less blue things and less Chanukah things in the stores. I feel like they used to at least put some blue stuff out - but not this year!

I love the idea of relating it to someone else's birthday party.

There seems to be a very "anti-Jewish" feeling this year... lots of snitty articles about people being bitter about being asked to say "happy holidays" when working at retail stores rather than "merry Christmas." Not sure what is bringing this on this year. I personally don't mind the lack of "blue." As I mentioned, there is no need to make Hanukkah into the "Jewish Christmas." It's better for the holiday to find it's own identity.
