...and just to wrap up the topic: Mrs. Duggar suffered a miscarriage of this 20th child. Let's hope they DON'T try again.

Sadly, you KNOW they will continue. They will never use BC, so she will keep getting pregnant as long as she keeps ovulating. Being a geneticist, I know that a 2nd trimester miscarriage is often the result of a chromosomal abnormality (an indication that her eggs have gone bad, which is expected at her age). If she keeps this up, she is in for more miscarriages and/or children with genetic disorders. Also, she will continue to be putting her own life at risk. Older women's bodies really weren't meant for making babies that late into life. Yes, I know it CAN be done, but it's not what we were biologically meant to do. Add that to the "wear and tear" that comes from already having so many babies, and that she had difficulties with her last pregnancy... I don't see her lasting much longer. Even animal breeders know not to breed their animals that often or for that long.
Essentially, she is going to breed herself to death. Everything I know about biology leads me to conclude that this woman is headed to a very early grave. I guess they will chalk that up to God's plan as well.

Of course they will continue to have more babies if they can. That goes without saying. Even at the advice of medical professionals to stop procreating, they pay that no mind. At her age she is only in for more complications for herself and for any unborn babies. Her eggs are bad and she is physically worn out.
I have nothing against religion, and I believe in God myself, but at some point you have to have some common sense and take control over your own life and your own body. If something happens to Mrs. Duggar her children are not going to be raised by their mother. It is a selfish mentality to mindlessly continue to breed, considering all the circumstances.
To me, using God as an excuse is just that, an excuse. Where is it written in any Bible or religious teaching that you have to have baby after baby until you are dead?

I think in the current state of this country, world over-population, and other negative economic factors, having 20 children is horribly selfish. There are a host of other reasons I think this, but these are my top few.

ChrissySnow- Nope, it's people who don't want kids who are selfish because we might not think that bringing more children into a planet that's already overcrowded, severely polluted and has a problem with ever-dwindling natural resources is a great idea. Especially since there are so many children in the world who aren't wanted, are abandoned, beaten, tortured mentally, starved and living in the fine lines between severe poverty and death.
Why do most people have kids? It's what they think they're supposed to do I guess, but I wonder if any of them ever stopped for a few moments and really thought about why they feel it's what you're "supposed" to do. Do they really want kids? Or are they just trying to fulfill other people's expectations of what a happy, wholesome family should be? The other reason most people have kids is to pass on their genes to the next generation. Let me ask this: How do parents feels they are contributing to society by putting more people on an already over-populated Earth? And why do they feel it's selfish if not everyone shares their desire for what they have dubbed as a "family?"

When is enough, enough?
For the most part, I haven't seen large families but for people on welfare. Reason being, they generate a salary increase for each new child they bring. There's no other way to say that. Your benefits from food to incrementals goes, up, up, up for each new child.
As far as the Dugars go? As long as they're not asking for gov. assistance, it's their choice. And maybe if they're passing down, values and frugality, that could help the "I-Me-Am" era we're currently dealing with.
However, if it's such a private choice, why is it publicized all over the place?
Someone instigated that first move, so, in that sense, I truly doubt it ONLY had to do with nature, ovulation and God-willingness.
We are overpopulated but there are also healthy possibilities correcting the balance of waste with solid individuals.
Whether or not theirs children will be? I don't know. Lime-lights can be terribly blinding looking directly into them.

I remember seeing a similar show on Phil Donahue in the 1970's and yes it was a welfare case.

Shock Value. Everyone is scraping to the bone and here is... We can do this, you can't in your face. It's designed to be appalling and intriguing at the same time.

The only person I heard with a balanced pardon the pun point of view on the issue. Planet Earth is designed to house, feed and clothe 10 Billion souls. Problem is that there are godless individuals in positions of high power who want to reduce the population of ' useless eaters ' <us> to about 500,000 so they can rape the resources even more and again the final judgement and Armageddon is being fought and waged daily in the invisible all god <him/her/it> requires is peoples free-will to cry out to move it along quicker.
Whether or not theirs children will be? I don't know. Lime-lights can be terribly blinding looking directly into them. "

I would not judge them as selfish individuals and accuse them of overpopulation...being in a reality show is in poor taste enough and playing Russion roulette with one's declining fertility and own health is quite another.
Unfortunately though, many societies are suffering from underpopulation. US States are concerned with many problems that arise from underpopulation.
