So today I saw a story on the news about a man who threw a potato sack of kittens out of the window in a a busy intersection. All of the kittens, save for one, a tiny 5 week old female died. And when I read more about it online, there were people making really heartless comments or laughing in the comment spaces.

No one would be doing any of that if it were a child being killed or abused but somehow it's funny to some people to see kittens tossed out a window and run over by more than 5 (yes 5) different vehicles. I'm just glad a nice lady took it upon herself to try to save them.

I know the world is an over populated place, but really, you could at least take the kittens to a shelter. They spay and neuter and the kittens would have all found homes. Whomever hurt those innocent kittens is a terrible excuse for a human being.

Having just adopted two kittens from a shelter who were abandoned, I can attest that these poor kitties DO get adopted. However, shelters do require relinquishment fees and I'm totally sure that even if this poor excuse for a human being considered taking them to a shelter, he would not have done it once he leanred it might cost him some money. He really could have dropped them off at a shelter or vet office after hours. They would have been taken care of. No, this person was just evil and mean. I feel sorry for the actual people in his life. He likely doesn't treat them much better. I sincerely hope he is found and prosecuted for animal cruelty and public endangerment. This easily could have led to car wrecks and injuries. Idiot.

I know, David and I just adopted a kitten too and when I think about it, all I can picture is someone tossing a bunch of smaller-sized Polkas (his name) out of a car window. It makes me angry enough to wanna punch something.

And of course I would never condone throwing a human baby out the window of a car, because that's terrible too. My point is mainly that it's ridiculous, cruel and heartless for people to make derogatory comments or laugh about such a cruel act, especially when four innocent kittens had to die so they could have a laugh.

As far as shelter fees go, good god...I can't believe people are so selfish that they can't pay some small fees to save a life or more than one life for that matter. The person that did this was driving a huge pick-up truck, as the lady had described. If he has the money to pay for the gas for that sucker, surely he can manage a tiny shelter fee. What a jerk.

Thing is, most people, not all people, but a good lot value human life over animal life. When it comes to a child people will cry and mourn a child that isn't even theirs. Yet let an animal be hurt, some will cry, quite a bit won't care or will laugh. Fact is people are amazingly cruel, and quite frankly my mother has always said: "If you can treat an animal that way, you can easily do it to a child" and I'll believe that till the day I die.

I've always said that.

A 70 yr old woman in my state was seen flinging kittens out her car window while driving. The two that hit the ground died but they found other kittens in her car that were saved. I hope she rots in jail for a while.

Some people are so cruel and heartless. There is just no excuse for this.

It's very true, I just find it horrifying that humanity has sunk so low that the only thing that gets some people to laugh is the pain, suffering and or ultimate death of another living creature. And it's especially heart-breaking when that creature is something like a tiny 5 day old kitten that never did a thing to anyone. It's not the cat's fault it was born in a place where it wasn't wanted, It was the human's fault for not having their pet fixed. Let's face it, most people who do things like that woman or the man I was talking about are irresponsible idiots and never got their own cat spayed or neutered.

It happens a lot more often than people realize.

12 years ago, a friend of mine found a one-day-old Rottweiler puppy abandoned outside a shopping area by a big fountain. He asked everyone around if they knew whose puppy it was, but no one would even acknowledge him. I visited my friend's restaurant that was in that shopping area that night, and he gave me the puppy. When I took it to the vet a few days later to make sure how old it was and if I was feeding it enough formula, the vet told me that some dog breeders will dump runts or "extra" puppies when they're just a day or two old because they don't think they'd be able to sell them, and they don't want to waste their time and money on them.

Thankfully, these folks don't dump them out of cars, but still. They're really putting a lot of faith into the kindness of strangers.

I still have the dog. He's 12, and he's the best dog I've ever had. The vet didn't expect him to live 5 more days much less 12 more years.

And I know that not all dog breeders do this, but some do. If you do purchase a dog from a breeder, find out all you can about the breeder before agreeing to anything. All my pets my whole life have been rescues, and I think I'll stick with that.

I clearly remember another story that is similar: When I was living in Las Vegas, I heard a news story: Someone decided to throw a kitten out of thier moving vehicle onto Las Vegas Boulevard during traffic hour. For those who are not familiar, this road is gigantic, many huge lanes and always full of cars. Thankfully, the woman behind this turd saw what he was doing and stopped her car, narrowly missing the little kitten who then could not be coaxed out from under the car. The lady put on her hazards, called animal rescue. They came to retrieve the little guy: when they got him out from under the car, he scratched the animal control worker. The SPCA decided because of the scratching, the kitten was violent and should be put down. I know. Shock and anger, right? OF COURSE HE SCRATCHED!!!! WHAT WOULD YOU DO? The story has a happy ending though: when word got out that the little guy would be put down, waves of angry folks boycotted. Hundreds wrote and called saying they would take the kitten. Under all the public attention, the SPCA relented and adopted the kitten out. However, they did release a statement that while it was great so many people wanted the little famous kitten, that there were thousands of other non-famous animals at their shelter that needed homes. They were right to say that: I hope many more animals were saved as well. People have a capacity for great cruelty, but thankfully they also have the capacity for great kindness!
