Amytis has become a jumper. i have the 1 gallon betta tank from wal mart (i cant remember what it is called) its like a 5 sided triangle...but anyhow, there is a hole in the top, i assume for air and food. I have been feeding her through it since i got her. Now, Nebbie is bigger, so he gets 4 pellets a day. Amy is smaller and younger so i give her 3. Either she pays attention to how many Nebbie gets or she is starving all the time, because she JUMPS 2 inches! out of the water to nip me when i try to give her a pellet! and she jumps out of this tiny hole!!
she also comes over to nip at my hand when i have to move her princess tower (it tips over sometimes). shes pushy! i was thinking maybe i should feed her 4 pellets too, but i think im being bossed around by my fish!! not that i mind, they are darn cute!
i think Nebbie has been feeding her tales about how he suckers me into giving him extra pellets...that turd!

LOL Sthenno!

They are quite the jumpers these little fish! I have to watch it too, sometimes they do try to jump right out of the tank. In fact, just today one of my little girls almost jumped out of that little triangle hole too..same tank Shenno..the "AquaScene".

Three of those pellets should be enough for her. I feed my bigboys 4 biogold pellets and the girls 2-3 twice a day. She's just being a big pig..runs in the family I'm afraid...(betta family, that is )...If you dumped the whole jar in there they'd eat it all..then roll over and die...lol...

Good thing they have us watching out for them..wonder who makes sure the wild betta don't overeat?? Maybe...in Thailand over there..there are lots of little bettas bobbing around in puddles, suffering extreem swim bladder issues from overeating...who knows!

The first time I saw Lovey jump - scared me half to death! I wasn't expecting it. I've never seen the boys jump, though. I have seen Gilligan gnawing on the side of the tank when he sees the Professor's been fed! He gets very agitated - actually looks like he's trying to eat the other guy's food from his tank.

i think the females must get more "hang time" due to not having those long fins!
i think that most animals eat like that because they must eat any time they can in the wild, since food is more scarce. if you got stuck in a puddle during a drought, i bet youd eat like a pig once you got food! its just so pathetic sometimes, tho, they just look at you with those big eyes like, "mommy, im REALLY HUNGRY! REALLY!" and i feel like im such a mean nazi for rationing the food. hey, a whole package of bio gold pellets that i got in april is only half gone, i must be doing something right!

I have to laugh at myself, because Sweetie is one FAT fish. She is about twice the width of a normal betta, but shows no signs of illness. If I don't feed her 3-4 pellets, she goes after her oto. And anytime I put algae chunks from the disk into her tank, she has to get the first several bites of it.

But, I'm telling you, she controls me the same way sthenno!

Hey Glo,

Jilly hasn't been on the board for a while, not sure what's going on. I hope her dad's ok, maybe she's just busy.

Jilly - if you're out there, come back!
