Today, Congress is holding hearings on SOPA, aka HR 3261. If passed, the Stop Online Piracy Act will in fact enact web censorship and firewalls much like what are found in China and Iran. Sites like this where people are free to write as they wish will be opened to attack and closure.

If you are a US citizen, please take just a few moments today and let your representative know that you support Freedom of Speech on the Internet! The site below has more information about the bill and all the how-tos you need to get in touch with your state's Congressperson.

You may not feel like your actions are worth taking but remember it's millions of drops of rain that combined make a raging river.

Big Business has already destroyed impartial news reporting. The web is intended for the global community to share their personal thoughts and ideas - not big business. Tell them to stop micromanaging people where it is not needed and focus on how to better contribute to the global community, rather than looking for ways to have unproductive dominion over it.

I second that, Rae, and urge people to act - and now before it's too late. Any organization (or individual) with big money would be able to use this to silence its critics.

It would be nice to find a happy medium that protects copyright and isn't a censorship problem at the same time.
