These are the lyrics to two songs I wrote some years ago. One was used at anti-Whaling demonstrations, and the other is how I feel about Nature.
I tended only to write poetry when I was suffering grief, or writing to comfort others in grief. So these two are 'out of the mould' so to speak!
They were written between 1979 and 1984.
HUMPBACKS
Sunset on the wide open sea, Sunset in the golden blaze of the sky. Softly, out of the silence comes to me Haunting music of the Humpbacks passing by.
They sang with a joy and love of life, To be alive and free! Drifting in the moonlight bright and clear, Watching, waiting for the Humpbacks to appear.
Hunters on the calm crystal water - Waiting are the slaughter ships of shame. Oh, Man, if you continue with the slaughter Life will perish, and you will be to blame!
Whales sing with a joy and love of life - To be alive and free! Listen to the message of the sea, Hear the singing of the Humpback Whales with me. ------------------
RIDE WITH THE WIND
Ride with the wind, walk by the sea, Climb to the mountain-tops, learn to be free. Sing with the birds, laugh with a child, Follow the butterfly, learn to be one with the wild.
Learn from the trees filling your sight, Lifting their mighty heads from darkness to light. Watch with the Whale, soar with the Dove Into the realms of light, bright mansions of love.
Let all fellow creatures have life that's free, The great, and the small - The children of the air, and the land and sea, Be one with them all.
The splendour of dawn, the birth of a foal, Hear through the silence the voice of your soul. Sing with the Whale, soar with the Dove, Into the realms of light - There you will learn how to love.

Onealone and Burt,
There is the Poetry Forum also if you would like to post your poems there. It is lovely to have them here in Elleise's forum where we all met. I just thought maybe your beautiful poetry would gather more attention in the poetry forum.

Thanks Phyllis, I might post my 'broken hearted' ones there! (I wrote a lot of what probably is my best poetry after a broken relationship in 2006. Not suitable for this forum really.)

Dear Bert, I posted a reply, and a poem with it, on your new link but I will include two here. They actually followed each other.
Like I warned - they are depressing, but it was healing for me to write them!
SHADOWS
There are shadows in my mind. They float across my consciousness Like phantoms of the night, and I find No peace in sleep, only restlessness.
The music in my heart is muted and still. The song of my soul rings out no more And, as I gaze at the distant hill, Theres a shadow that wasnt there before.
Is the shadow in my sight, or in my heart? It descends on all that fills my gaze! Is it real? Or just a part Of this distorted inner haze?
Nothing seems to be the same. I'm walking in some distant land On paths of doubt that have no name, And hearing words I dont understand!
That face now is a shadow too! That voice no longer brings me peace! That love Ive found no longer true And from my torment theres no release.
-------------------------
HOW DEEP MY HEART!
Where is my heart? My love? In the depths of the ocean, down, down, through the shifting shades of blue and green, to where the banks of coral, lit by the filtered sunlight fill my gaze with splashes of colour and thrill my aching soul?
Where fish dart and cruise like silent inhabitants of a peaceful other-world, but even here, in the silent depths of beauty unspeakable, there lurk dangers. Wrecks of ships of past and present, tragic in their history give home to the many life forms that seek refuge in their rusting skeletons.
Does my love lie here, amidst the wrecks of the past?
Like the restless wind, my life is tossed and blown and caught up in the destructive hurricane - and I am at its mercy as it sweeps me up in its wrath and carries me, drives me where I would not go then abandons me in some desert place I know not, or some remote mountain top, miles from home!
Does my love lie here, amidst the unknown?
In the depths of the earth, buried in grief, lost in confusion and fear, hidden from sight, there treasures lie, yet undiscovered, but sleeping until awakened by some prospector seeking riches. And will my love be found, along with the precious gems and minerals there?
Or does my love lie in waiting?
Will it one day blossom and give of its beauty? Will someone deem it a treasure, and treat it with great gentleness and respect? Will it flourish in some heart-garden where it will be tended each day with care? Or, like the sunset, will it fade into night until the birth of a new dawn, when it will shine forth in beauty once more, in the heart of another?
How deep - my heart! -----------------------------------

OneAlone,
How emotional your words are! They are songs of the soul: the words cry out to be heard....and we hear them. Thanks for sharing them. I loved the poems/songs about the whales; I too have a great kinship with the ocean and all of her creatures.
You write of the humpback whales and it reminds me of a trip to Maui a few years ago. I was swimming in the ocean, alone, with no one else (human that is) in the water. I dove deep to the sand and I heard them singing. At first, I thought it was my imagination, but then I kept hearing the music -- it was the whales!
It touched me so deeply that I too wrote I poem about the music, their simple joy of just existing and being free.
It was an amazing experience, unlike any I've ever had.
Blessed be.
Peace.
