Hello All!! I have been suffering from Hypo symptoms for about a year now. I first went to my OB and he did a thyroid test and said everything was normal, that was 6 months ago. My symptoms have progressively gotten worse, from the dry hair/skin to fatigue, headaches and the list goes on an on ( I won't bore you with that information ). Having said all that I made an appointment with an Endocrinologist and he said I made a good case for Hypothyroidism ( by the way, thyroid problems run in my family ). My results came back and here is what he told me : TSH 1.81 T.4 FREE 1.2 TPO AB 357 ( WHOA ) Along with these test he did vitamin D , prolactin ...vitamin deficiency . I was just a tad low on Vitamin D. So basically my prognosis is that everything is normal except my TPO AB. Why is that?! My Dr. seemed rushed and didn't have time to answer my questions it seemed ( time to fire that Dr ). Could this be Hashimoto's Thyroiditis ? He did put me on a low dose , 50mcg of synthroid. One thing i am having a hard time understanding is he didn't check for Underactive Adrenal glands, when in his office he said I may be suffering from adrenal fatigue ( A lot of stress over the past 3 yrs ). Anyways, I know you all aren't Dr's but some of you have been dealing with Thyroid problems and have most likely looked at any information you can get your hands on , like me. Has anyone here had normal thyroid function but high top ab with all of the hypo symptoms?! Also, should I ask my Dr about natural hormones or adding T3 into the mix , like Cytomel? Oh, and these 15 lbs I've gained have GOT to come off...any suggestions for that would be awesome :) Thanks for taking the time to read my post. You ladies have a fabulous day and I'm sprinkling my health dust on everyone as I type..lol! To happy healthier women!!! :)

I have Hashimoto's and the only advise I can give is to try all the natural approaches with the meds the doc gives you. The meds alone never helped me. I am still searching for solutions but each time I implement something it seems to help. There are some e-books on natural methods that are cheap and my help you on your search. HYPOTHYROIDISM SOLUTION / HYPOTHYROIDISM BREAKTHROUGH / THE THYROID HORMONE SOLUTION. If you read any of these books let me know what you thought and if they helped you. If anyone has read these e-books, post what you thought; it may help some of us newbies. I just bought one and will start reading it this week. I will post on it soon. The biggest thing that helped me was the gluten free diet. It has helped keep my goiter down and the lump in my throat down. I highly recommend this to anyone with thyroid problems.

A TPO of 357 indicates a fairly well advanced case of Hoshimodo's.

The only way to get relief is TSH supression. The best way to do this is an adequate dose of desiccated thyroid. To get proper treatment, you will have to find a doctor that is not a slave to the drug companies BS.

You can check some of the other thyroid groups 'good doctor' list.

On Yahoo the natural thyroid hormone group and natural thyroid hormone adrenals group. Both have a good list of doctors that will work with you, instead of treating you like the only thing that matters is the TSH.

I have been reading a number of posts regarding the thyroid problem. If any of you use commercially baked goods, including bread, this news will help for starters: This latest discovery from Sally at: www.breastcancerchoices.org (pull it up) She calls it the "BROMIDE dominance theory" and explains that it is an additive called, potassium bromate that commercial bakers use in bread and baked goods because it makes the dough more elastic. However, the researchers found that only Pepperidge Farm does not use bromated flour. Britain has banned bromated flour since 1990, Canada has banned bromated flour since 1994. In the U.S. The Center for Science in the Public Interest petitioned the FDA in 1999 to ban the use of potassium bromate in our food, charging that the FDA has known for years that it causes CANCER in lab animals. As of September 2007 their answer to Sally's inquiry was. "Potassium Bromide is still listed as a safe additive". Why should it be banned? Researchers have proved that BROMIDE, is absorbed in the small intestine, taken to the thyroid gland and blocks out the iodine needed by that gland to make its hormone T4 causing a slow thyroid. Symptoms of a slow thyroid are: Low levels of energy, Headaches, Not able to lose weight, Urinary problems, Skin lesions, Depression, and others. Bromide is found in some toothpaste, mouthwash, antiseptics, gargles, cosmetics, vegetable oils, infant formulas, water. Also in flame retardant products, textile dyes, citrus and cola drinks. See www.curezone.com for more information. The way to get the bromide out of your body and keep it out is to take two drops of white Iodine a day. That is 150 mcg's. That will block the bromide from entering your thyroid gland. I am not affiliated with any of these sites. But being a Certified Nutritionist,I get a lot of natural cures from Holistic sites and share them with my clients.
