I think many people have issues in this area and don't realize how much they self sabotage their efforts.

I knew one woman who was extremely smart and was quite talented in her field. However, she got fired from several jobs in a row because she rubbed her co-workers the wrong way. She always blamed the company and had lists of reasons it was their fault - it never occurred to her to look at herself for ways to improve.

She finally had to work for herself. She's getting by, but it's a real shame, I think. She had the opportunity with each new job to make a fresh start, but she never took it.

I do realize it's very hard to look at issues!

I worked with a few trainers like this at several gyms Lisa. Their unprofessional behavior was sexual harassment towards coworkers and clients as well.

The really sad thing is they were all very talented and good at helping people lose weight and get fit so definitely some self sabotage going on there.

The worst thing of all is they were never told the real reason they were getting fired. AZ is a right to work state so many employers mistakenly believe they don't need to tell people why they are being "let go" which means those people will continue behaving that way forever.

I know two of those guys have bounced around from job to job for years now always blaming others for not "fitting in".

Greetings everyone,

Great topic!

Customer service is skill that is often overlooked in professional settings. We not only have to use our customer service skills with clients and customers, but also with vendors and co-workers.

We need to learn how to manage customer expectations, how to empathize, problem solve etc. etc. etc And the beauty of it is there is always an opportunity to learneven at home.

Heres something I wrote on the subject.

Practice Customer Service Skills at Home

Monica -

That is a tough line. I do think companies should help an employee learn what they are doing wrong so they can improve. But there are also some people who just don't hear the message. I'm sure my friend was told in her evaluations that she needed to work on her interpersonal skills and I imagine she just ignored those messages. I imagine the trainers were probably nudged to change their behavior and the nudges went right over their head.
