This is kind of a weird one.
Since I got the oto cat and cory cat as bowl buddies for my betta’s, I’ve been turning off the brass piano lamp that lights their bowls at night. I’ve heard that oto cats in particular are nocturnal eaters, and I’m trying to keep the lil’ guy as comfy as possible, especially during his acclimation period.
Well, both yesterday and this morning when I got up and turned on the light, Fang has been hanging out on the bottom, colour pretty well drained from his body, with horizontal stripes down his body (!!!!). After I turn on the light and give him a couple of freeze dried bloodworms for breakfast, his colour suddenly returns and he’s zipping around chasing Auto and flaring at Mao, as per usual.
I’ve checked their temps and, as the heating in my building stays on overnight in the fall/winter, there hasn’t been much temperature difference between the time I turn the light off at night and then on again in the morning.
I wonder if Fang is freaked out by Auto zipping around him in the dark?? Since betta’s are carnivores, they’re very visual. I guess he can’t see very well in the dark. Should I keep the light on at night so as not to scare Fang?
