Due to some tax laws that just passed here in California, Amazon is no longer paying affiliates in California.
So, I went and removed the amazon ads from my blog, and replaced them with google adsense.
Oy!
I think I'll look into Bing and see if they have an affiliate program too.

I have not heard anything about this yet but I'm guessing they're setting a precedent here. I'm glad I don't rely on amazon for major income. Nobody over at SBI does. Amazon is convenient for folks but it's not the best way for you to monetize your blog or site.

I had a friend in CA who was caught up in this and I've found on forums that Amazon affiliates in other states have also been hit. I don't get much revenue from Amazon but it would be time consuming to go back and remove all the ads from my site so hope it doesn't happen in my state.

I do most of my internet shopping through GoodShop, which receives donations for the charity of your choice when you buy things. I buy a lot on Amazon and a small percent always went to the Humane Society I chose.
I went to order today and found that because of the CA law, Amazon purchase donations will no longer go to Goodshop because Goodshop is one of it's affiliates which was booted out.
I plan to try and find alternatives which will still donate to Goodshop charities when I shop now so Amazon won't get as much of my money.

I link to Amazon's affiliate program in book reviews, and my BellaOnline Bookshop, and do pretty well with it, so I was really bummed about this. However, for now I have changed my affiliate contact address to Utah (we own a rental property there) and that reactivated my account. Obviously this is not an option for everyone, but it does work. I know some people are using relatives addresses, etc.

I've joined Linkshare and shareasale and am gradually changing all my Amazon ads. But Google has one too, I'm thinking of joining that.

I really liked being able to put amazon links on my reviews, just cuz it's a nice way to make things convenient for my readers. I've signed up to be a Barnes and Noble affiliate, but I notice that they don't have as good a price on most things as Amazon does. What a bummer! I wish Barnes and Noble was a little more competitive!

I'm really worried about this now since Amazon is my main income generator here at bellaonline. I guess this is the motivation I needed to start writing more ebooks!

yes I am thinking time for another ebook. There is a site called Safe Affiliate that will be the third party thru amazon. I submitted my info and should do a search and see if I got a response back yet. What was that about bing someone else posted? Is there a link?

email went out on Monday - "As you may have heard, California Governor Jerry Brown has signed legislation repealing the law that had forced us to terminate our California Associates. We are pleased to invite all California Associates whose accounts were closed due to the prior legislation to re-enroll in the Associates Program.
This is not retroactive but you have to log in and click on that you agree to the terms and conditions and you start again.
