Hello there!

What is your favourite thing about container gardening?

Is it because it is easy for you? takes up little space and still give flowers and veges and herbs and all?

Is it perhaps the variety of flowers and plants and styles and just plain versatility?

Is it being in charge? Is it learning and experimenting and growing and creating?

Is it because you can get lost in thought?

I know, it's where you go to mend a broken heart!

Tell us what you think - for me, it's all of the above plus plus and plus.

Cheers now

I love containers because you aren't limited to the ground spaces in your environment. You can place containers anywhere where there are appropriate micro-climates for the particular plants you choose. Containers allow for many different types of themes and garden decor.

Easy to amend the soil and/or move to a better location. You can protect container gardens from inclement weather, seasonal changes, etc.

I love indoor container gardens, too. And they make excellent nature gifts! smile

Hi Lestie,

My favorite thing about gardening in containers is all that you mention and more.

I will share this little story with you about my Lemon Balm.

I started the Lemon Balm from seeds. It was a little late in the season and I was not sure if I would get any good results. I put the whole pack of seeds in a 10" pot, sat it on my desk near a sunny window, and hoped for the best.

It seemed like it took forever for tiny little seedlings to pop their heads up out of the soil. Every day I checked them often, kept them moist and prayed over them.

Finally there were several good sized seedlings that made it to about six inches or more and had several leaves. I was finally able to set the pot out on my patio where it got morning sun. The plants just took off and formed a beautiful arrangement. A few times I would take one leaf, rinse it off well and drop it in my cup with a tea bag. The tea was awesome!

About two weeks ago I began noticing pesty little critters on my Lemon Balm. I picked them off when I could, but, they gained on me and several of the leaves had holes and brown spots.

This morning I decided to toss the whole plant because it was too infested. I dumped the plant into a plastic bag and when I tied the bag closed, a rush of heavenly lemon scent flooded the patio. I felt so sad.

So - I untied the bag, snipped off all the leaves that were still pretty and unaffected, and rinsed them off thoroughly. They are now sitting in the kitchen, drying on paper towels.

When they are dry, I will tie together several bundles of branches with pretty ribbon and hang the sprigs around my home. When they begin to dry and become crunchy, I will make some sachet bags for them. I will put the sachets in my closets and dresser drawers.

What a wonderful and uplifting fragrance they give!

I like container's for most of my plants and flowers because they are easy to move around. I have plants and flowers year round and if a hurricane comes in or some cold weather we can move all of the container's into the garage.
