It's always interesting to me WHY people name their animal companions the things they do. I named my macaw Tozer after a favorite author. My daughter named her lovebird Sunshine because she looks like she is bathed in sunlight.

WHY did you name your birds what you named them?

I named my white zebra finch legless because he didn't have any legs. Our cat tried to pull him out of his cage and broke both of his legs when he was young. Because he was young he was able to adapt to every day bird things. He was able to father chicks, build a nest, land on a perch, have a bath and do various other things that birds do.

Awww ... Your finch is lucky to have you. My mom had a breeder pair of cockatiels for awhile that chewed the toes off their babies-YIKES! It's amazing that your bird is so functional without legs!

Years ago my daughter was given a colorful parakeet. It's been about 12 years, and my daughter was 16 at the time. She named him Jerry Garcia. He was the same color as her tie dyed Grateful Dead shirt.

Jerry had tons of personality. Would hang upside down between his legs on the side of the cage, roll around in his food dish as though it were a bath, and make lots of noise if you changed the television channel. We've had cockatiels, finches and parakeets before, but none with this much personality. All our other birds were prenamed when we received them.
