Hi,

The cold remedy that works for me is 1 large clove of garlic in a cup of orange juice.

In severe cases I take it 2 times per day.

Works as well, if not better than any anti-biotics I've ever taken.

Great remedies here! When I feel a cold coming on, I make warm lemonade with cayanne pepper and honey. The honey is an antiviral and the cayanne pepper heats me up so I can sweat. Lots of water is helpful.

I liked the garlic and oj advice too. I usually toast some bread and then crunch up a clove of garlic, add a little butter and put it on the toast. fresh, uncooked garlic works like a charm.

Lots of tea, honey and lemon too.

id say the best way not to get colds is to drink hot lemon tea with honey all through!

I already put up a post on here about boosting your immune system but all your hints here are great. My favorite way to zap a cold before it even gets started is this one:

I make some hot green tea with the juice of one lemon squeezed in and add a dash of cayanne pepper. Then I crush a clove of fresh garlic and add it to some toast.

After that I eat some candied ginger for my indigestion!

My grandmother swore by apple cider vinegar and garlic-chicken soup for everything!

I'm extremely prone to anything upper-respiratory related. I've tried zinc--pthhtt. Didn't work.

Airborne helps (maybe mind over matter) and I get an annual flu shot (as does everyone in the household). We really stress handwashing or using an alcohol gel on the hands (if not where we can wash hands), one time use of tissues, covering mouth, etc.

My grandmother always swore by eliminating dairy products if you had a cold, or if you were prone to them.

A couple of people have mentioned crushing garlic on toast. I often rub a clove of garlic straight on to toast (no butter) - strong but effective.

The best way to eliminate colds from your life is to have a strong immune system and wash your hands a lot! A strong immune system comes from daily healthy living choices we all make which includes cutting out sugar and processed foods, adding fruits and veggies and exercise, and drinking plenty of water and green tea, and managing stress.

All of those small choices add up to a healthier life, which includes avoiding colds and other illnesses.
