Lots of people get bummed about not getting comments on their blog posts but this doesn't even begin to happen until your site blog is getting massive amounts of traffic and even then some people are afraid to post comments.

Comments are nice but they don't necessarily generate income. If your content is great your site blog will generate plenty of income with or without comments and there will come a time when you actually get fed up of trying to moderate comments so enjoy your comment free time while you have it.

This is true, but there are always a lot of spam blog comments. May we can add the tag of nofollow to deal with these spam comments.

Unfortunately "nofollow" doesn't deter spam comments, it just denies linkjuice to those who do comment and are not spammers.

I don't know how wordpress works but over at SBI you have full control over comments. Nothing gets posted unless you approve it first and you can edit posts to remove links and other spam too. You can also ban spammers forever.

If a person takes the time to add something of value to my community I will leave their links in the post. If not the link gets deleted but the comment is approved and if it's a weak comment I just don't approve it and ban the person.

One thing comments do is boost your ratings in Google because Google likes socially active sites. A boost in ratings also equals a boost in traffic over time.

I have 3 blogs and two hardly ever get comments. One thing I did to boost comments on that blog was to search out other blogs of the same subject and leave well thought out comments on their site. They usually try and visit mine back and comment. I've built a relationship with several of these people and we regularly visit each other's blogs.

I have a blog with some traffic (but no income yet) and most of the comments on there are useless. What do you think is the best way to separate out the real comments from the ones that are auto-generated?

Have a good spam catcher in place, Akismet is pretty good for WordPress, it will immediately weed out spam based on types of comments and links left.

Also, whenever I setup a blog I adjust the Discussions area under the Settings tab to make sure I review any comment left with one or more links. I also require that commenters must leave their name and email.

This is a good start to minimizing spam.
