I don't live in L.A., but I've been to the Getty Museum and the Getty Villa. Both were spectacular! I have not paid for parking, because I accompanied a friend with a handicap plate. I didn't plan it that way, but it was nice.
My son takes his twin daughters to both museums a few times a year. They don't always even go inside, because they love just walking around outside to see the fabulous landscaping and outdoor art. It is even educational. My granddaughters looked at several paintings and told me a story about the subject or history of what I was looking at. I was amazed!
My frugal suggestion: Food is very expensive there. Visit around meal time so you don't have to spend $$ while there. I cannot remember whether they allow you to bring your own drinks or food.
