America is and was never intended to be a Christian nation. However, the principles upon which this nation was founded are undeniably Christian. The settlers came to the "New World" to escape religious persecution and did not want another government to dictate what and how one should practice HIS religion.
Therefore, when establishing this nation the Founders wrote from their experience which was based upon their values. Not to say that all the founders were Christian, because they were not (some were deists, others atheists). And, not to say that everything the founders did was correct/fair, because not every decision and/practice was like denying blacks, women, and native Americans their "unalienable rights" which directily conflicts with teachings of bible. Evidence of this is contained in the founding documents, revisions, and amendments that we hold so dear. Today, there is an imbalance in the checks and balances of our system where the judicial branch is now superlegistrating and the voice of a few is heard.
While I do not advocate the moral supremacy of Christians (if we are anything good, it is because of Christ not us) or the mistreatment/abuse/ostricism of those who practice anything other than biblical Christianity (that would be unlike Jesus who reached out to all without tolerating sin in a loving, unapologetic way), I do advocate for those who profess Christ to stand up and speak out in the marketplace, the voting booth, etc. and reject the world's definiton of tolerance which does not tolerate any idea/person that is different from its own. Especially, if the ideas have to do with the heritage upon which this nation was started.
