What are important features that you mention in your cover letter rather than your resume?

Hi Jay_Z:

I am by no means an EXPERT on this, but I seem to remember this subject was posted by the editor for the "Job Search" forum.

But I know Dianne, the editor for this site will respond shortly or some other Bella Family member will. Sorry I was not able to help frown

I am so GLAD to see you so active as a "newbie" - love it. So glad you joined our family easter

True covered in job search, but since I recruit for a living and a cover letter can be used when applying for a promotion - here are my thoughts on the subject :-)

A cover letter should be a BRIEF (notice the word "brief") snapshot of why you think you would be a fit for the company. Absolutely do not re-tell your historyl they can see that in the resume.

I always say "mention the numbers". What did you do to save a previous company money or what stragedy did you implement to save time how much time, how many dollars - something that is extremely relavant to the job you are applying for. It needs to makes sense but keep it brief.

Do change your cover letter depending on the job, sometimes people get lazy and use the same cover letter for every job. I'm offering a job in library sciences and you're telling me that you are looking to use your sales skills, really?

I believe that my 15 years as a human resource professional specializing in xyz would be a great fit for the position of HR Director of your organization. (Note here that I didn't list the companies, I just mention my years of experience and particular skills.

One final word - confidence is good but being cocky is not.

Hope that helps! Best of luck to you and we're so glad you're here with us on Bella Online!
