Glad you enjoyed the article Phyllis, and without your help as graphics tutor in the last weeks, it certainly would never have been illustrated. Thank you!
As a country the Germans really enjoy and value their castles, it is part of their culture to visit them and also walk around the castle gardens, and a quite normal weekend excursion. Especially in the winter when there are not quite so many people there to enjoy the same thing.
They are of course also treasure houses of European art and history, often with amazing interiors, and when trades people brought dozens of eggs and cheese curds up the hills or mountains to the castles, it wasnt to cook a huge breakfast for staff and guests, they were all to be used to make a glaze for some of the styles of decorating.
And guess what, Neueschwanstein, the Disney castle, might look as if it is a limestone masterpiece but actually it was built from ordinary brick and the limestone was put on as a faade.
Still beautiful though isnt it?
