Thanks for that Gogirl, I really enjoyed it - and how very typical of the sentiments we read here !
I laughed at the point she made when, even in her 50s, they were still asking the question, but now it's about grandkids.
I also read the 'Yes, Brilliant parent, we hear you.'
That was good too, and I liked the fact that the author was a woman who had kids.
It shows that women with small kids love the attention from others - and as the article shows - will talk loudly 'a la mother Teresa' to show what fantastic, modern, wonderful parents they are.
BUT as the kids get older , no longer want to rave openly about their teenagers and the problems of drug taking, unwanted pregnancy, and the myriad of other more minor irritations / problems, that the saint with the cute baby doing adorable funny things hasn't imagined to be looming on the not so distant horizon.
The other thing that struck me, was that for those of us who don't have kids, is the amount of thought that goes into NOT having them.
which makes me wonder that the majority who have chosen kids, haven't really given it any thought at all.
That's why when we meet the mothers who can't understand that , yes, actually, having kids is a choice, and those that don't, also belong to this planet, and the other sort, that realize child rearing isn't all a wonderful, fulfilling experience, and therefore become rude, sarcastic and generally unpleasant towards those women who haven't had to put up with the nightmare of children that they feel they are dealing with.
Anyhoo, great weekend....
