Story time!

Once upon a time in a magical land called "Publix," a fair maiden was was strolling down the bread aisle to pick up, well, bread obviously. To her shock, she spotted a woman at the end of the aisles studying a magical box of popcorn. What this woman didn't realize was that not 2 feet away from her, her little pet pony (approximately 3 years of age) was systematically ravaging all the bags of bread he could get his hands on: Grab, bite, put back on shelf, grab, bite, but back on shelf,...

The fair maiden stood frozen. She didn't know what to do! Should she inform the woman of the pony's deeds? Chastise the pony herself? Surely she couldn't do the former without incurring the wrath of the woman. But, before she had a chance to act, the woman and her pony moved on to another aisle, with her oblivious to the pony's destructive deeds. The fair maiden rolled her cart closer to the spot where the pony had been chomping on the bread. Sure enough, about 10 bags of bread had giant, noticeable toddl--- I mean "pony" sized chucks ripped out, but the plastic wrap remained intact and unbroken. So, the fair maiden took the damaged bags of bread off the shelf and carried them over to "Ye old Customer Service," and recounted her tale of the pony's actions. The kind shop attendant apologized on behalf of the woman and the shop, and thanked me kindly for letting her know. She then dispatched a knight in a green apron to go inspect the shelf to see if there were any other damaged bags that the maiden might have missed. The knight looked annoyed, walking away mumbling something under his breath about "people don't watch their ponies." The maiden finished her shopping, and returned to her ponyfree home with undamaged bread.

The End.

Thanks for the laugh, Dolyn. I bet a lot of us have seen similar instances of parents involved in their own thoughts in the stores, with their kids doing whatever they want to, often causing damage. I have seen this sort of thing going on in the toy section of department stores.

I am glad the pony left a loaf of bread undamaged for you.

Who paid for the damaged bread ?
The woman who wasn't watching her 'pony' should have been apprehended and charged for all damaged bread, and made to get some training on how to teach her 'pony' not to touch things that he shouldn't. 'Ponies' learn very quickly......problem is..the parent has to be more inteligent that the pony.

Well written Dolyn.

Publix is a kind land where they do not have a tendency to charge the village folk who damage goods (the maiden herself having accidentally dropped a jar and knocked over a shampoo display during previous visits). My assumption is that the shop keepers simply accept a certain amount of goods damaged due to clumsy villagers and loose ponies.

I would have told the mother. Just a simple hey your kid is tearing up the bread. If she did or didn't do anything about it oh well. Then I would have told the manager.
