Here's an idea for summer knitting I had forgotten about. I knitted 6 x 8 inch rectangles. All the pieces were joined for a blanket in a traditional pueblo pattern, in black, turquoise, tan and white.
It was one of the first large projects I tackled after picking the needles up again. It turned out fairly well and used up a bunch of partial skeins. I have done this before, too, and it works so well. When the cooler weather comes back, then I sew the squares together for an afghan. My mother and I are working on squares now, of different colors and patterns. This winter, we will sew them together.

I love the idea of the squares, and another thought that I've read about might be, you know those gauge swatches no one likes to do? Try making them a good size 8 x 8 or 8 x 6 etc. and gathering them together to make a blanket.

Hi, I sent you a reply under, My Stuff, Messages. I think I will post that at the top of the forum also for all to see.
Thanks for asking,

Hello Marge, That's a good idea. And perhaps it would be a good way to make a tub mat, or whatever, out of cotton yarns.
Happy knitting! Rita

Rita, that's a neat idea. Piecing a bathmat with smaller versions of matching washcloths would look great in a bathroom. Matching strips could be added to the towels as well.

Hi there I am new to this site and live in South Africa, where heat is my biggest hate. BUT I was told by my Mother that if you use baby powder on ur hands it helps knitting in the heat!! I have been using this for years.
Hope u find this useful. Looking 4ward to this site
Regards
Yolande

Using baby powder on the hands would help a lot. Then the yarn will slide through the hands better.

What an Awesome idea Yolande! I bet plain corn starch would work too. It was well into the 90's here in the Deep South today, so I don't pick up the needles until in the evening during the hotter months.

I have been knitting a secret gift sweater in all wool this summer and the baby powder is coming in handy.
