There is a New Yorker magazine cartoon (you can find it on the New Yorker web site in the Cartoon Bank by typing in "animals" and "pig") that speaks to human self-centeredness. In the cartoon is a man in a Hawaiian shirt with barbecue tongs in one hand and a can in the other. The man is standing on a cloud looking up at a tall desk and behind the desk are large white (pearly, I suppose) gates. So far, the anthropomorphic scene generally appears as the entry to heaven. But, behind the desk, instead of some countenance of St. Peter, is a big pig in a white robe and sporting a halo. The caption simply reads: "Go ahead, finish your beer."
