Well, I went shopping for a female betta today and couldnt find one, so I settled for a quite agressive little healthy boy. I named him Tucker, after Maple Leaf Tough Guy Darcy Tucker. He's red, with little silver spots ending each scale towards the end of his body. His eyes are clear, and make him look very evil. Tie's tank is close to Tucker's, but only Tucker seems to mind, so I put something in between their tanks. Betta safe then sorry eh? Whenever Tucker would flare at Tie, Tie would just look at him, and then swim away, unconcerned lol...

Lol Mega...
I saw an interestingly colored betta today. He was a neon purpleish color of all things. I hemmed and hawed about buying him...I left him where he was. The lighting in that store isn't the greatest so I can't be sure that was his true color...but it sure sort of glowed...I'm thinking I should have gotten him, but...hey...I can't buy them all !!!! oO(much as I'd like to!)
Ya know...he was ALMOST the same color as the blinking "EMG" in my signiture down there...just not as dark...weird color for a betta! (jeesh, maybe he'll still be there tomorrow!!)

Lol, on the way home, I told my mom, That when I get more money, Im going to get another one. Shes like, Why? I told her cause I feel sorry for them in those little cups. And because I have the red and green starter kits, so I want the purple one too. Im tellin yah, bettas are addictive lol. I had two choices: buy my lunch, or go to the pet store, and I chose the pet store. I hope the next one I get will be a female. Tucker is really agressive, but looks really alert though. He keeps his dorsal fin up all the time, unlike Tie, who keeps his down, and sometimes I see him flare at nothing lol. He did it this morning after I fed him. He was swimming around then, Poof, new Tucker, all puffed up. He's really wierd but seems to be settling in better than Tie did. He actually ate two pellets when I put him in his tank yesterday. It took me 3-4 days to get Tie to eat a pellet, but now he jumps at my hand when I put it over the tank for feeding. I was afraid he would jump out, but he seems content to stay INSIDE for now (thank god). Tie: Tucker:  Tata for now...

Sounds like your little boys are happy! Good on ya. About a girl...wait till you find a beatiful one. I have a wonderful collection of gorgeous, stunning girls and it makes me feel good whenever I look at them. It's like a treasure hunt, and you get such a glow from finding treasure. THAT being said, looks are not the only thing that matters. Sweetie (Nan's girl) is a dull little thing who shines brightly when flirting with her boys...and she has the disposition of an angel. Unlike some of my mean little brats!
Go for it with the purple tank! You aren't fully addicted until you start wondering where else you will have room for another bowl...three is just getting wet...LOL...and EMG - girl! I am laughing over here about you and the purple boy. May as well get him. You are already so hopelessly drowning in bettas that one, ten, twenty more won't make a difference!

Ha! Emg, you crack me up. GEt your hubby to make you some custom betta shelves and sell em on ebay. not to mention use them to get your horizontal surfaces back! Have you decided to make a fish room yet???

Jilly...my dinning room IS the fishroom...LOL ! I actually went out and bought a cheap plastic shelf unit at Lowe's to put all the cups on. I still have the computer desk loaded with fish tanks. I actually have a few empty tanks since I made that divided 10 gallon. That's why I went ahead and bought those other fish..lol..besides, I am going to be making another 10 gallon divided tank soon.
The only thing with the shelf I have them on...is that I don't have a very good way of keeping them warm..and with the cooler weather coming on I need to make something up to fix that prob. I have been thinking of getting some florescent lights and putting them up on the bottom of the upper shelves and hanging towels around the unit to keep the heat in. But I've only gotten as far as thinking about actually doing it..lol...I am hoping to find homes for all these lovely ladies before I need to get serious about it though.

Florescent lights don't make enough heat for much warmth, but it's worth a shot. I would line the shelf with a long reptile pad or two and monitor the temps for awhile to see how it goes.
If you can close off the dining room, you can just use a space heater to keep the room warmer. that's what the pros do...

Reptile pads are expensive..I'm trying to find a way to do this without spending lots. (as if I havn't spent lots already! )
I could use incandescent lights, like what I have in the aquarium hoods...they certainly produce plenty of warmth. I don't know, I'll figure something out..I usually do..lol
