On The Wings Of The Great Speckled Bird
by Marty Robbins

What a beautiful thought I am thinking
Concerning a great speckled bird
Remember her name is recorded
On the pages of God's Holy Word.

All the other birds are flocking 'round her
She is despised by the squad
But the great speckled bird in the Bible
Representing the great church of God.

All the other churches are against her
They envy her glory and fame
They hate her because she is chosen
And has not denied Jesus' name.

Desiring to lower her standard
They watch every move that she makes
They long to find fault with her teachings
But really they find no mistake.

She is spreading her wings for a journey

She's going to leave by and by
When the trumpet shall sound in the morning
She'll rise and go up in the sky.

In the presence of all her despisers
With a song never uttered before
She will rise and be gone in a moment
Till the great tribulation is o'er.

I am glad I have learned of her meekness
I am proud that my name is on her book
For I want to be one never fearing
The face of my Savior true love.

When He cometh descending from heaven
On the cloud that He writes in His Word
I'll be joyfully carried to meet Him
On the wings of that great speckled bird.

Judith by A Perfect Circle I don't know why I LOOOOOOVE this song. The lyrics are intense but the sound is killer. I guess I'll be going to confession this week for loving all this stuff blush

Warning: Do not read if you are easily offended

you're such an inspiration for ways that i will never ever choose to be
oh so many ways for me to show you how your savior has abandoned you
f your god your lord your christ,
he did this took all you had
and left you this way
still you pray never stray never taste of the fruit never thought to question why

it's not like you killed someone
it's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side
praise the one who left you broken down and paralyzed
he did it all for you

oh so many ways for me to show you how your dogma has abandoned you
pray to your christ to your god
never taste of the fruit never stray never break never choke on a lie
even though he's the one who did this to you never thought to question why

it's not like you killed someone
it's not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side
talk to jesus christ as if he knows the reasons why
he did it all for you
he did it all for you

Also I love a lot of Godsmack's stuff and some of Drowning Pool's stuff. Those guys have an entire album by the name of Sermon with cute little songs titled Sinner and Follow. These guys are hardcore.

Also, Terrible Lie by Nine Inch Nails is an old favorite of mine. I just got the nails reference now. Duh!!!

Les, and any others of your belief system, I am sorry if I offended. You are just so delightful to chat with, Les, that I forgot for a minute which forum I was in.

My parents used to sing this song when I was a kid and that was one of my first inspirational songs that defined my philosophy. I still love the song and have combined those beliefs with the Lakhota Way of believing in love for all Creation and living in harmony and balance with Nature.

Great_Grandaughter (welcome to the A/A Forum!), Monica, and Phyllis thank you for the super and reflective responses to some of the musical influences of your philosophies and belief systems.

It seems to me Phyllis that you and everyone have posted in the proper forum as a major goal is to understand (please keep in mind that I am from the 60's) where you are coming from (and where you believe or hope that it will lead you to). As the Affirmation lyrics stated "the grass is no more green on the other side."- perhaps only different.

In a totally different vein from "Imagine" but with similar impactful influence is a song that can be interpreted in various ways:

"The Eve of Destruction" as sung by Barry McGuire

The eastern world, it is exploding
Violence flarin', bullets loadin'
You're old enough to kill, but not for votin'
You don't believe in war, but what's that gun you're totin'
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin'

But you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.

Don't you understand what I'm tryin' to say
Can't you feel the fears I'm feelin' today?
If the button is pushed, there's no runnin' away
There'll be no one to save, with the world in a grave
[Take a look around ya boy, it's bound to scare ya boy]

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.

Yeah, my blood's so mad feels like coagulatin'
I'm sitting here just contemplatin'
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation.
Handful of senators don't pass legislation
And marches alone can't bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin'
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin'

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
You may leave here for 4 days in space
But when you return, it's the same old place
The poundin' of the drums, the pride and disgrace
You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace
And tell me over and over and over and over again, my friend
You don't believe
We're on the eve
Of destruction
Mm, no no, you don't believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.

The Eve of Destruction, I think, is very expressive of how the world is today. Pretty close to the truth. Yet we do have the choice of flowing with it or turning it around.

Regardless of our belief systems, we can stand together and make the world a better place.

Yup! It certainly was not May 21, 2011.

Phyllis suggested that A/A could stand for A/A? Agnostic Anonymous?.

From my point of view and if you read some of my articles I am of the belief that A/A rather than ambiguously and confusingly mean Atheist/Agnostic as they are not one and the same, should represent AGNOSTIC AUTONOMOUS.

I gotta go listen to this song now.

Here's a random thought for you: I wonder how many people would have no religion at all if it wasn't taught to them from birth or if they were not exposed to it at all?

I grew up Catholic and rebelled big time (as evidenced by my music choice) and at times still do but I still came back to it after 20 years. I'm what is known as a revert and I still struggle with so many aspects of it but have not felt the desire to explore anything other than Buddhism and Theosophy which make even less sense (the bigger picture not the day to day).

Had I not been raised Catholic would I have been drawn to it as some are or would I just be agnostic like my boyfriend and both my exhusbands? I've watched tons of interviews now of people who were atheists and agnostics and even pagan who found their way to Catholicism. I'm always blown away by this. I don't see how this happens especially when they are sooooooo dead set on their non-belief of God and Jesus. What do you think of all this?
