This realy wasn't something I had planned on discussing but due to tonights or this mornings events (for pete's sake) let's go ahead and talk about it.

Now I have insomnia. Most people on here who know me, know that I do. It's nothing I'm proud of but since we're talking about it, what keeps me up is, yes, there's repentense (is that a word?) but pensive, thoughtful, remorseful of not just me, but all of the mess out there in the world, the politics, Hollywood, the media...

Pretty much from sun up to sun down you can catch me thinking about it.

Do I feel the world is coming to an end anytime in the near future?

Um, no.

Why?

For the most part if I needed anything else, the Earth, Moon, Sky all of the things that have been here well before I have, well, they're still there.

The fact that people are a little lost or stagnate or even psychotic inside, does that really mean the world is going to come to an end?

What do you think?

Hello there,

I think by discussing this topic right now that perhaps we will fall into the trap aet by this disturbed and 'Godless' person who chose to attack Bellaonline.

Jelly roll whomever you represent, keep your nonsense to yourself and live by your own fundamentalist beliefs. Let others be.

The world will come to an end when the world comes to an end. I doubt that any theories we have to put forward will change that and anyway, does our world not come to an end for each of us when we die? This world certainly does, this life, this persona.

As for the earth ending, well, daily we are doing so much globally to ensure the end that I am surprised we do not do more to save it or go more green or stop living red. Can you imagine a world free of tobacco? or battery farmed chickens? or oil spillages from tankers or ... or ... or ... or ... ad infinitum?

History seems to have taught us nothing.

We all play our fiddles while Rome burns like Nero supposedly did.

I can't forget those words from T S Eliot (The Hollow Men)

"this is the way the world ends,
this is the way the world ends,
this is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper."

OH DEAR! What a negative message Elleise, sorry. Please others, don't stop posting on this topic.

But I think I will go and smell my roses, I have three beautiful plants in my containers in full bloom right now - Peace, Papa Meilland and Just Joey. What a treat! Thank you world.

My, my, Lestie. I do hope you feel more cheerful after smelling the roses. laugh

I think Jellyroll got us all off to a rapid start this AM. He/she must be quite worried about May 21st. Well...at least he got his POV across loud and clear.

No, Elleise, I do not think the world is coming to an end. I do think a change is coming, a major change it will be, too. Hopefully it will be for the better. I agree with the Hopi tribes, that the Fifth World has already begun.

Hi there and yes I know it was a sad message in parts! And yes, the sight of my garden and my smelly roses was just the right thing to set me straight again.

But then I have choice. The battery chickens don't.

Cheers

I love roses and being in the gardens. It is always nice to stop and smell the roses -- especially when so many think the world is coming to an end.

Who/what are the "battery chickens"?

Phyllis an answer to your 'battery chickens' question. It is, in my opinion anyway, a particularly cruel form or farming to produce 'cheaper' food.

'Battery Hens' are chickens kept in cages often so small they cannot even turn around, are often 'de-beaked' so they do not attack each other because of the stress, while food/water are delivered using large conveyor systems.

They go in these cages while just a few weeks old and stay there around nine months, after this they are not considered productive so are disposed of.

We are having such beautiful weather I was able to put bulbs from my Spring flowerpots into the ground, with primroses, portulaca, polkadot plants and pansies here and there. Goodness, I did not realize it until right now that I seemed to stick to one letter of the alphabet while shopping! Now we can add "Pam plants ..." to the start of the list to make it a perfect sentence.

The son of a dear friend of mine is getting married on Friday; and my son will be spruced up in a tuxedo for the annual Starlight Foundation prom on Saturday. There seem to be a dozen lovely events planned for this weekend, and we are hoping the fine weather stays a few more days to lift people's spirits after a very cold, wet April and half of May.

We have gone through some tough times, sad times, scary times; but looking back I realize how many times I could not see around a corner when hope and even stubbornness seemed to be at their lowest ebb. So, in the darkest times I should remember it's much more likely there will be unexpected joys and a thrill or two just down the road apiece. When we come to the end of the world, if such an event happens in our lifetimes, maybe there will be something else around that corner, too. Until then, I believe we should take care of our little corners of it the best we can.

Until then, ordinary life can be my rock in times of trouble. My favorite little neighbor girl I've known since she was a baby arrived home with a balloon as I was surveying my gardening today. Her little sister is now walking and talking! And the little sis ran over to me to be picked up and shown the new plants. This is the first time she has shown an interest in me like that - although big sis is always carrying on with me about something.

As I set the little one down to run along home with her parents, the first born told me she had a secret to tell me. The secret was "Do you have two cans of apple juice in the car trunk, one for me and one for my sister?" I had to confess that my son had my keys upstairs - but offered her some lambs ear leaves instead. Oh, yes, that's good, of course. I picked one for her and one for her sister - and then she decided she would very much like this particular leaf over here. So I gave her that one and cut another, so each member of the family would have a leaf upstairs.

And that reminds me, I should plant or purchase some snapdragons, because I have now shown the younger sister how to make them talk. I sure hope the world does not end until after I show her that!

Wishing you a merry end of May,

That's Life Pam and I mean that's life in its exquisite form, not 'that's life' as an idiom used as a cop out to accepting whatever happens.

The joy of watching and helping children discover things, the sound of their laughter, ... this is another list that can go on forever. That song sung in the movie The Sound of Music (Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens etc ... few of my favourite things...) may be sweet and old fashioned these days but Julie Andrews surely captured a lot of the precious aspects of living.

Will stand by my earlier thoughts even though some were somewhat sad and depressing, and for this I am sorry to all as generally I am an optimist. By way of explanation perhaps I was just reacting badly to that silly spammer who chose to blanket us all with whatever they were promoting. Didn't read it, had no interest at all.

Your weather, the children, the wedding, the gardening (especially the snapdragons) and the prom - lovely to read about, thanks muchly for being upbeat and for your happy chatter.

I am on leave right now lazing around reading and doing all the things a person wants to do while not having to do any. Sounds Irish that!

Cheers

Well I completely missed the comment or whatever it was. That's probably for the best. The last time we were up in SC, I saw several billboards along the interstate about the world coming to an end tomorrow, and have heard mention of it on the news. I'm assuming that is what all this is about.

This has been claimed so many times through history. People following the "Messenger" not the message. They prepare, sell or give away their possessions, gather to wait. They stay up to the wee hours, fall asleep, and wake up to the sun already shining.

When it comes, it comes. Until then, I have things to do smile
