I'm not really sure of the reason why, they love to cuddle ie: sitting next to you ect., but most just don't like to be held or carried. Feeling of insecurity? I would love to see other people's opinion of why the rabbit doesn't like to be held. Rabbits - How to care for pet rabbits

Excellent article Diana.

We have had our rabbit for over three years and like you wrote almost all of the interaction with him has to be at his ground level. The only time that he tolerates being held for a while and even seems to enjoy it is when I hold him eye to eye with our many caged birds, especially the half-moon conure even when he makes menacing yet harmless gestures at him. I think that is because he gets jealous of the attention that I pay to the birds and when I do not carry him out to the birds he will try to get my attention by nibbling at the cuffs of my pants.

He also is very smart when it comes to getting treats. At a certain time of the day if I am in the kitchen and I have not given him his treat after a minute or two he will loudly scratch on the metal door until he gets it. I really did not have to do much training with him but he learned quickly that to get his treat he gets up on his hind legs and does a poodle-like pirouette. Brinkee also likes to inspect the shopping bags when we come back from shopping and place them on the tiled floors.

How are rabbits at locating and identifying sounds? It seems to me that his sense of smell is far superior to his sense of hearing.

I do know that rabbits are every bit as smart as any other pet, in some ways maybe more so. How did he learn that scratching on metal would annoy the heck out of you? Just thinking about it makes my spine cringe. His curiosity of the grocery bags is cute. I have had a few animals that love to check out the groceries when we get home, including the human animals lol.

My rabbits loved it when I laid on the floor and hid my face, they would do everything under the sun to get at me. We had a lot of fun. Back when my spine was a little healthier I'd hop around with them, they though that was great fun. I'd stay on the floor and watch TV and they would cuddle next to my sides and go to sleep. Some would sprawl across my stomach or chest but only on their terms. If I put them there they wouldn't stay, but if they did it, it was fine. How did you get interested in rabbits?
