"Artists and Artisans: A Guided Walking Tour of Blandford Cemetery"
April 28th

The Petersburg Department of Tourism will present a guided walking tour entitled "Artists and Artisans" on Thursday, April 28, 2011, at 7:00 pm in Blandford Cemetery.

Tinker, tailor, soldier, sailor.rich man, poor man, beggar man, thief.doctor, lawyer, Indian Chief. This variation of an English nursery rhyme can describe some of the occupations of those buried in Blandford Cemetery, the final resting place of local writers, painters, businessmen, and craftsmen from the nineteenth century.

The walk through Blandford Cemetery will uncover the fascinating stories of many talented and skilled citizens who lived and plied their trades in Petersburg. The tour will feature, for example, stonemasons; blacksmiths, tinsmiths and silversmiths; watercolorists; poets and other writers; and a daguerreian or early photographer.

Admission for the tour will be $5.00 per adult, children under 12 free.

Tickets can be purchased at the Blandford Church Reception Center. Doors will open to the public at 6:30 p.m. For further information, please call (804) 733-2396.
