Well, the day is almost here. I have posted a couple topics in regards to sterilization and making a final decision to get it done. I am having a tubal by cauterization tomorrow and they have already changed my surgery time twice. I am eating a decent dinner due to the fact that I cannot eat or drink after midnight and now I have to report to the hospital by 12noon and my surgery is 1:30pm. Thats a pretty long time without a drink! I'll probably be dehydrated and they will use me as a pin-cushion to find a vein..OUCH! So, to those veterans out there..any last minute advice or what to expect? I will follow up when I can during recouperating :)

Hey, I wish you the best. Maybe request meds in advance so you don't feel sick from the meds they use to put you down. I hope everything goes well for you.

Hope everything goes well - I usually faint when I've got to give blood ( I'm ok with other peoples, just not my own ! ) so no useful advice here....but it'll soon be over.
Take care of yourself.

I hope it went well! For me, the worst pain was from the gas they inflate your abdomen with. It takes a couple days to dissipate out of your body and makes horrible shoulder/back pain. I literally spent 2 days laying down because standing made the gas rise and hurt, but I was okay laying down. After that I was good to go:) External cuts and such have never really bothered me, so I never really noticed those. They just scabbed and healed like they were supposed to.

Also, my next few periods (or rather the cramps that come with my period) were horrible! My first period after, I was in so much pain my husband called my gyno because he was worried. My doctor said that while I may have felt healed, my insides were still healing from them inflating the abdomen, which moves things around, and the cauterization on my tubes as well was still healing. When my period started, my normal cramps were aggravating the internal "wounds." Sure enough, everything went back to normal in a few months. But I did utilize some of the vicoden prescription he gave me during those first 2 periods.

Other than that, I had no problems. Best thing I ever did! Hope you feel better soon. Enjoy worry-free fun wink

Hello everyone and thank you for your well wishes. All in all, the experience was not that bad. My surgery time was changed like 3 times and I ended up getting it done around 2:00pm, in recovery around 3:00pm and left the hospital around 4:45pm. The catheter was placed on top of my hand and that was the worst of the procedure! They put me out and when I woke up I was in pain (between an 8-9). Pain meds worked good and then the doctor came in while I was still in recovery and explained what happened and I repeated myself to her. Both the doc and the OR nurse were impressed that I was able to remember that so quickly. No nausea...yeah!!!! Also, no pain whatsoever in regards to the inflation of gas into my abdomen. I feel good! Like I posted in another topic when I was just 'thinking' of getting the procedure done, I am a heavier woman and the possibility of failure was two-fold. The doc had to use larger instruments (laporascopic) and instead of one incision, there were two in the belly-button area. She scared me when she told me they almost aborted the procedure but they were able to get it done. Got home and watched some tv, ate somethiing and still no major pain, just discomfort. Took some pain meds and went to bed, tossed and turned and woke up about 2 hours ago. Follow-up with doc in 4 weeks. DH is taking me out for dinner and I am starved!

Four-week followup at my OB/GYN went great! The scar is almost gone and I continue to apply cocoa butter. The pictures she took while doing the procedure were interesting and it also showed my ovaries and uterus. She said everything looks healthy. I had my period 1 1/2 weeks post-surgical and hardly had any pain, but, unlike when you are on the pill, the bleeding did last longer. I am starting to see the benefits already. The obvious is the cost of BC pills and one less synthetic thing going into my body. Another HUGE benefit that I was not expecting was the acne issue. I have dealt with acne for over 22 years of being on the pill and I originally thought that it was suppose to help..not in my situation! I cannot believe the huge difference in how my face looks and how it has cleared up in only four weeks! Lastly, I have heard about more painful periods, etc. after going off of BC pills (wether you are getting sterlized or not). My first period after my TL was not bad at all. My OB/GYN also told me that I will more likely go back to the way my periods were before I was on BC. If that is the case, I only got a period 2-3 times a YEAR! If they become more painful, I have no problem dealing with it if it is only going to occur 2-3 times a year. Final thought..well worth it and the benefits definitly outweigh the risk!
