230th Anniversary of the 1781 Battle of Petersburg Reenactment

April 16th & 17th

The City of Petersburg and the Department of Tourism present the 20th Annual Revolutionary War Reenactment to be held at historic Battersea on Saturday, April 16th, from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm and on Sunday, April 17th, from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm at 1289 Upper Appomattox Street in Petersburg. More than 100 reenactors portraying American, British and German troops will camp on the grounds of Battersea for the weekend.

This historic weekend event will provide the public with the opportunity to experience and learn about the soldiers who fought in the War for American Independence from England. The reenactors will hold regimental drills, training exercises, skirmishes and battle demonstrations throughout the weekend. Travel back in time and chat with the soldiers about their uniforms, equipment and recreated lifestyles. Meet the Sutlers (merchants) who traveled with the troops in order to sell them goods. Talk to the eighteenth century civilian reenactors and explore their camps. Enjoy the Reenactment of the 1781 Battle of Petersburg in addition to period demonstrations of music, dancing, woodcarving, children's games and activities, horse demonstrations and much more.

Historic Battersea, a beautiful eighteenth century Neo-Palladian style home, will be open for tours daily. Battersea was built in1768 by a founding father, Colonel John Banister, a signer of the Articles of Confederation and the first mayor of Petersburg.
